Alan Hughes, 68 years, lives in the village of Bethesda in Gwynedd in North Wales. He has retired due to ill health and disability caused by muscular dystrophy.
Alan has been supported by Digital Gwynedd, he has received a tablet and a digital champion has been helping Alan to learn to use it and develop digital skills to to do things online.
He has found that this has made it easier to manage his disability, including being able to take part in his weekly physiotherapy sessions over zoom; staying in touch with the muscular dystrophy charity MDUK; researching his illness online and keeping up with the developments in this medical field.
Alan has also learned how to use email and is now sharing things and messages via email with his family. He has found other uses for the tablet too, like watching films online. Doing this with his headphones on means he is not disturbing the rest of the family. Alan said that this helps with his mental health too.
Alan describes the support he has received: ‘These sessions have given me a lot more confidence which I didn’t have before. I wish to thank Digital Gwynedd and Citizens Online for their hard work. I feel I can always come back for more support if I need it’.
Digital Gwynedd is funded by the UK Community Renewal Fund.
Mae Alan Hughes, 68 oed, yn byw ym mhentref Bethesda yng Ngwynedd yng Ngogledd Cymru. Mae wedi ymddeol oherwydd salwch ac anabledd a achosir gan dystroffi cyhyrol.
Mae Alan wedi bod yn cael cefnogaeth gan Gwynedd Ddigidol, mae wedi derbyn tabled ac wedi cael cefnogaeth gan bencampwr digidol i ddysgu sut i’w ddefnyddio a dysgu sut i wneud pethau ar-lein.
Mae wedi canfod bod hyn wedi ei gwneud yn haws i reoli ei anabledd, gan gynnwys gallu cymryd rhan yn ei sesiynau ffisiotherapi wythnosol dros Zoom; cadw mewn cysylltiad â’r elusen Dystroffi Cyhyrol – MDUK; ymchwilio i’w salwch ar-lein a chadw i fyny â’r datblygiadau yn y maes meddygol hwn.
Mae Alan hefyd wedi dysgu sut i ddefnyddio e-bost a’i gyfrif ar-lein yn effeithiol i rannu pethau gyda’i deulu. Mae wedi dod o hyd i ddefnyddiau eraill ar gyfer y dabled hefyd, fel gwylio ffilmiau ar-lein. Mae gwneud hyn gyda’i glustffonau ymlaen yn golygu nad yw’n tarfu ar weddill y teulu. Dywedodd Alan fod hyn yn helpu gyda’i iechyd meddwl hefyd. Disgrifia Alan y gefnogaeth a gafodd: ‘Mae’r sesiynau hyn wedi rhoi llawer mwy o hyder i mi nad oedd gennyf o’r blaen. Hoffwn ddiolch i Gwynedd Ddigidol a Citizens Online am eu gwaith caled. Rwy’n teimlo y gallaf bob amser ddod yn ôl am fwy o gefnogaeth os bydd ei angen arnaf’.
